I recently finished reading Stiff by Mary Roach. It goes into grand detail about what happens when you donate your body to science and what has happened in the past to those who did not willing donate their bodies but the body snatchers got them and they ended up on the cutting table anyway. (don't worry, it's illegal these days in the US).
Roach enjoys sharing her sometimes useful useless pieces of information, and so I'll share one with you. An autopsy cannot be done on anything besides a human (well, chimps learn how to hold a scalpel or some other species develops opposable thumbs). By definition, an autopsy is a "postmortem medical inspection of one's own species". So I hope to never see an autopsy of something besides of human......well....maybe that would be an interesting sight to see.
FYI, the postmortem medical inspection of a specimen of another species is called a necropsy.

Why?
Well...
everyone has those little pieces of information that they use maybe once in their lives. I know uncountable little tidbits about random things and so does everyone else. So, in the efforts to enlighten you (or just make you feel smart around your friends), I decided to share the ones that I hear about or feel the need to pass on.
I make no guarantees on when I'll update this. I'm a graduate student and that means I'm supposed to be doing research and not blogging....but we'll see how well that works out.
